I've built dedicated workstation systems for customers that need their core production software "up-to-shape" and as stable as possible.

My steps for this are :
1. A good and stable Linux installation (Ubuntu, RedHat, Fedora ...)
2. Cleaning unneeded software, apply performance modifications.
3. Installation of the customer's core production software
4. Customization of the OS to the customer's need. (use of Webmin for serving output files to other systems)
5. Bundle the result from all of the above to a Live-CD (for setting up more systems if needed and provide good and quick support)
*I made dedicated systems for: Softimage, Medusa, Blender, DraftSight, KDEnLive, Scribus ... as well as rendering support node systems for these software.

Building such machines under Windows is extremely difficult and also I cannot guarantee for a good and stable performance. (On Mac is absolutely impossible)

I would really like to see Adobe's products (and other crucial commercial software) on Linux mainly for the above reason.
It's obvious that only Linux is capable to offer a good basis for dedicated workstation systems (which is not something new)
If software like Adobe's Suite find their way to Linux then third-party IT businesses will find a new way of selling these products and also be able to ensure to their clients that their solutions will be cheaper, productive to their maximum and stable .

@Rod, I do not agree with your argument. It is because of people like you that Linux is never going to take off. I am a Web designer and would love to switch to Ubuntu permanently but let's be honest, Gimp, Krita, Inkscape... are poor tools compared to the Adobe products.

Besides, I don't see why Proprietary softwares could not run on an open source platform. This is not incompatible. You talk about choice... I want to have the choice to run any software I like on my OS, either proprietary or open source softwares. Linux is a great and stable platform and it is sad that Adobe do not want to port their products to the Linux system. One day they will not be able to ignore Linux anymore. It is more and more present (desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets...). They are missing a huge market.

It'd be really cool to see Photoshop ported to Linux. Lots of people stay with Windows for one app and Photoshop is a big one.

That being said, GIMP does everything I need to do.

never. gnu/linux and free software is not only about using one or the other OS, it's about freedom of choice and freedom of knowledge. using gnu/linux with a lot of proprietary software defeats the point, if you just want to use it with the whole adobe suite, then stay on windows/mac.

ever heard of the "free as in free speech vs. free as in free beer" argument? that's the kind of thing i'm talking about.

@Vernon
Wow, It is great to hear someone who is currently using mainly open source. I had not heard of MyPaint and Synfig before, please share any more O.S software you use that is not very common. Thanks

Adobe on Linux? I hate this company and their policies/Business strategies. We bought "serious Magic" now Adobe "whatever" and this company seriously did not propose any upgrade solutions for people who had just bought this product before they bought the company. We have completely switched from *ALL* Adobe products on our production line, not even the fonts have their trademark.

Even if they ported to linux we(we are not all users in the world) would not be buying this garbage. It is why we've switched completely to Gimp, Inkscape, Synfig, MyPaint etc. with no regrets. What keeps us on windows is Lightwave(which we intend to keep using).

Adobe is one of the things keeping me on windows. Also ZBrush. Maya allready has a version that runs on Linux, a hybrid, fascinating concept.

Photoshop may be a powerful tool but it wasn't enough to stop me switching to Linux, I will settle with other tools like the GIMP if I need to (but haven't done yet).

If Adobe did release it for Linux, which I doubt they will, I know several and am one of the people who would be getting it.

Currently, Linux is a far better environment for programming as opposed to design work. I think a Linux version of Photoshop might bring both to the same level.

Adobe produces well innovative solution for the world, if available for Linux surely it will be a most used application as well as, it will be a helpful for the developers and designers .

reason is no need of spending much money for Operating system as well as the Anitvirus (especially for Windows).
