Want to create an Open Source Web based OS for Netbooks? Join Us!

Xenon is a web-based “cloud” system designed to run all the programs you’d expect a computer to perform, such as wordprocessing, instant messaging, and browsing the web aimed at netbooks. Me and a friend had started this project a few months back and are now looking for more people to join the project and make this a reality.
The advantage of the system is that it can run on extremely low-end hardware, such as netbooks, tablets, PDAs, and kiosk PCs. This way, computers can become very cheap and still be able to do most tasks expected of them.

Dan Dart originally started the project, wanting to create an intuitive user interface as he noticed a need for this as netbooks are becoming more popular. The main aims of the project is to create a system that is fast and efficient, very easy to use, portable, using web standards and to make it as less resource demanding as possible.

This is a pretty cool project.
@Kumailht – I was posting on another thread about the desktop weather feature, what kind of other features were you looking to put into this? I see that your trying to keep it small. Also have you guys decided on whether you will base this off another distro and configure it that way? If not, have you decided on how to keep the system up to date?
Let me know what you need help with right now and I’ll see if I can provide support.

That sounds very interesting, but I dunno if my abilities are enough to participate in the project (currently a Junior COE (Computer Engineering) Student in KFUPM with a little knowledge about Datebases, Web Development, Java and Intel/MIPS Assembly )

its going to be a fun project.
The OS is mainly web based so you dont need to be an expert, just a little knowledge helps. We do need someone in databases as Dan mentioned above. I hope to see you in our team soon

hmm… sounds interesting, I’m a frontend webdeveloper with background in creating fairly high end JavaScript powered applications. I’m also a bit of a designer, but I prefer working with code.

Hey Kumail, I’m getting a 404 “not found” error for your Xenon site. Is the project scrapped?

Is this still being working on, and do you still need people to help? If so, I’d love to join you, I’ve got some pretty innovative UI ideas in mind for an OS like this.

Yes, please help! We’d welcome ideas, and development if possible. Please invite as many people as possible, too. Can’t have too many devs.
Email me: dan dart. at googlemail dot com please.
